Village of the Year Update
Sadly Funtington has not been successful in the regional round of the competition so we shall not be progressing any further this year.
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the presentations. There has been a considerable ‘spin-off’ in increased interest in the future of the Parish and ideas put forward for improvements, which the Parish Council will be considering.
VILLAGE OF THE YEAR COMPETITION
The 'Village of the Year' competition, managed by Action in Rural Sussex, sponsored by Calor Gas, for villages/communities of 5000 people in East and West Sussex, was held on Friday 10 July at Scaynes Hill Millennium Village Centre. It is pleasing to announce that Funtington (parish) were winners in West Sussex, and advance to the Regional and National stages. The Chairman of Funtington Parish Council was presented with a plaque and certificate, as well as a cheque for £800, by Mrs. Susan Pyper, Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex. The competition is based on "Not what the Village(s) has – but what the Community does", for example the website, traffic calming, affordable housing, and the Welcome Pack. The Parish Council looks forward to the next challenges.
Parishioners should be aware that the Certificate will be placed in the Church Room, Funtington, and West Stoke Village Hall, whilst the plaque will be presented to the Chairman at West Ashling Village Hall 2 September, where it will be displayed.
The Inspection for the Regional/National finals will take place between 25 September and 10 October. Our objective is 'To Maintain a Vibrant Parish.' As part of this ongoing commitment, the Parish Council is offering four prizes of £25 to people of all ages for the best suggestions on "How we can make this Community an even better place to live." Your suggestions to the Chairman or any councillor by 20 September, or attend the Parish Council meeting, 6.30pm on 2 September.
